About
Hendler Homes and Enterprises began in 2012 when James Hendler, a local middle school teacher, was looking for a way to contribute to the local economy and to teach his two sons (now age 22 and 18) about hard work, local citizenship and the rewards of financial goal setting.
Hendler Homes began with the purchase of a small local strip mall from a friend who made it possible for James to successfully invest part of his small teacher’s salary into something with potential for growth over time.
Always looking to improve himself and to help supplement his teacher’s salary James continued to take risks while employing his boys in flipping houses and mowing local lawns so that they could learn the value of a dollar as well as save for a vehicle, auto insurance and gas. (Not to mention banking some money for college).
A long term goal of his was to give back to the community in which he enjoys so much and to create a business that was not yet available in Kirksville. This is where the idea for Blue Heron climate controlled storage began. After acquiring what he affectionately referred to as the “ugliest building in Kirksville” (formerly the Pulis building) he worked tirelessly with his sons, their friends and his friends to turn the existing building that needed much love into a smart space where local citizens can store their belongings safely without the worry of damage due to overly cold, damp or hot weather as well as at a very modest price.
Over the past 30 years James has developed many local personal and business relationships and a reputation for fair dealing with an eye to always “do the right thing” by people. Choosing to trust your belongings to Blue Heron storage is a nod to a trusted local business started by a regular guy who has always chosen to lead by example his wife Melissa of 25 years as well as his beloved two sons. Trust the Hendler family with your belongings. We promise it will be a safe investment.
